2023 Youth Derby Program Director

Derby United is seeking a Youth Derby Program Director.  The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about bringing back youth derby to San Diego post-pandemic. In years past, Derby United has had a thriving recreational and competitive roller derby program for young skaters.  Now in 2023, we wish to bring back those programs as well as offer new opportunities for young athletes. The Program Director would work directly with the General Manager and Adult Derby Leadership to plan and execute the new program. 

This position is a paid part time contractor. Approximately 25 hrs per month. Monthly stipend.  Room for growth to a full-time position for the right candidate.  

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Oversee program planning, development and implementation
• Attend monthly orientations to discuss the program with participants and parents
• Send a weekly email with updates to participants
• Work with trainers to create monthly schedule 
• Collaborate with coaches to have a cohesive training program
• Encourage and organize parent volunteers for practices or games
• Work with facility leadership to create a bouting schedule
• Nurture a climate that instills a love of the game

Qualifications & Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of the sport of roller derby
• Experience working with children and parents
• Ability to communicate verbally and via email in a professional and timely manner
• Able to organize and delegate tasks to staff and volunteers
• Able to work in a harmonious manner with subordinates, supervisors and others
• Available during scheduled practice hours as needed to communicate with participants

Winter/Spring 2023 Outline: 

• Three practices per week, Tu & Th 4-6p, Sat 9-10:30p 
• Firecrackers age 6-12, Spitfires age 13-18
• Registration: $12/practice or $90 Unlimited (includes all derby as well as public skate)
